The
way in which people act and interact in a given situation
is what makes them unique. The way businesses interact
creates differentiation and competitive advantage. These
interactions are processes; a series of actions, changes
or functions bringing about a result. Developing and
maintaining the right processes can be the difference
between achieving success or not. Some processes are
basic such as simply asking a question and some are
complex such as manufacturing a product. Whether basic
or complex, each process has inherent qualities that
make it unique.
Complexities are often introduced through:
- The materials that you
buy, supply, and sell or products you manufacture
- The relationship interactions
in the process of buying, supplying and selling (people
and their behaviors, interests, skills, and capabilities)
Processes can be complex and
difficult to manage. While trying to address these complexities,
regardless of the methods employed, we can lose sight
of the original process either by fragmenting
it or abandoning it altogether. So how can we address
this complexity, while retaining the integrity of the
original process, and therefore its value?
